Muhammad Ali has died at the age of 74, a family spokesman has said.

The former world heavyweight boxing champion, one of the world’s best-known sportsmen, died at a hospital in the US city of Phoenix, Arizona, after being admitted on Thursday.

He was suffering from a respiratory illness, a condition that was complicated by Parkinson’s disease.

The funeral will take place in Ali’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, his family said in a statement.

SHANNON BRIGGS finally caught up with David Haye — by gatecrashing his press conference.

Briggs arrived in London earlier this month in the hope of securing a fight with the former WBA world heavyweight champion.

And he hammered home his point as Haye, 35, was in the middle of announcing he will face unbeaten Arnold Gjergjaj, 31, at London’s O2 Arena on May 21.

Briggs bellowed: “David, I’ve got you on camera. Do me a favour and tell the people at home why you’re fighting someone we’ve never heard of instead of me.

“I came to your country looking for a fight. Let’s go champ! Give me an answer champ! We need an answer.”

Rather than confront the intruder, Haye asked Briggs whether he would pass a brain scan and a medical.

Chris Eubank says he would pull his son out of a fight if he was in the same situation as Nick Blackwell.

Eubank told his son, also called Chris, to avoid punching Blackwell in the head towards the end of Saturday’s British middleweight title fight in London.

Blackwell, 25, is in an induced coma after being stopped in the 10th round.

Eubank Sr told BBC Sport had roles been reversed, he would make “the only decision a father could” and “have the fight stopped”.

Between rounds eight and nine, Eubank – a former world champion – was heard to urge his son to punch Blackwell’s body rather than his face.

The fight was halted in the 10th round by the ringside doctor because Blackwell’s left eye was swollen shut.

Asked what decision he would have made in the same circumstances, Eubank Sr said: “God willing he’s never in that position. But if he was, yes, I would have the fight stopped.

“It would alienate me from my son for life, because I would pull him out. He would never forgive me, never.

“Even though he would be able to see that I made the right decision, and the only decision a father could make.

“It’s either that or his health – so it is not a difficult question.”
