Police are searching for a mother who took her two children during a supervised, court-ordered visitation in El Monte.

El Monte police said Emily Lynn Moon snatched her two boys Saturday, when the designated court monitor left momentarily during their visit at a McDonalds.

Police said the 32-year-old did not have custody of the boys, and believe Moon took her children to her Lake Elsinore home.

Anyone with information about their whereabouts was asked to call El Monte police at 626-580-2110.

SYDNEY: An Australian woman working for a charity in Afghanistan has been kidnapped, the country’s foreign minister said Friday.

Julie Bishop said Canberra was working to secure the release of Katherine Jane Wilson, but insisted Australia does not pay ransoms for hostages.

Wilson, who also uses the first name Kerry, was grabbed in the city of Jalalabad, close to the border with Pakistan, on Thursday, a government official in the area told AFP.

“She visited the city of Jalalabad for a women’s embroidery project,” said Ataullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province, of which Jalalabad is the capital.

“And unknown masked gunmen abducted her from Police District 2 of Jalalabad city.”

He added that the kidnappers, disguised as police, took her at 4am from a home in which she was staying.

Nangarhar police chief Zrawer Zahed confirmed the abduction by “unidentified gunmen” not long after she arrived on Wednesday evening.

Bishop said she had been in contact with Wilson’s family.

Ethiopian troops have crossed into South Sudan in search of more than 100 children who were kidnapped and spirited across the border in a surprise attack that also killed 208 people.

The attackers, who were armed with machine guns, killed anyone who tried to stop them from taking the children, including women, according to witnesses. They also took more than 2,000 livestock.

Estimates of the number of children snatched ranged from 102 to 125.

“The army has been conducting reconnaissance missions in South Sudan and they have a clear idea of where the children are,” Getachew Reda, the information minister, told the AFP news agency.

“We have sought approval of the government of South Sudan to conduct these operations.”

Al Jazeera’s Catherine Soi, reporting from Gambela in western Ethiopia, where the incident took place, reported that witnesses said the men were well organised and dressed in military fatigues.

PARENTS are on alert after men in white vans were seen trying to abduct boys in three separate incidents within miles of each other in Kent.

School chiefs are also on guard after the police revealed incidents took place last Tuesday and Wednesday.

Another incident was said to have happened on Friday at Hayesbrook School in Tonbridge, when a two men wearing balaclavas approached a 12-year-old.

In the first incident the transit van pulled up at the side of the road before a terrified 10-year-old was ordered to get in.

The boy ran off and told his parents, who called the police.

The next day another 12-year-old boy was chased by what police believe to be the same man at 3.40pm.

Witnesses saw the incident where the man jumped out the white van and tried to grab the boy, who had left 1,100-pupil Hugh Christie secondary school in Tonbridge, Kent, before travelling on a bus to Sevenoaks.

They say the driver “slammed on his brakes” before running after the boy, who managed to escape.

Police say the man was not known to either of the boys.
